Lara witnessed massacre during the Civil War in Angola, Africa. Her family escaped as refugees to the US and upon arrival she and her sister were kidnapped. After being rescued she survived violence from her father who suffered extreme PTSD from years spent in guerilla warfare. Lara witnessed miracle after miracle but still struggled with the question of why a loving God allowed these horrific things to happen to her.
